Debbie Hunt & Connie Moore

Recognizing that positive accomplishments are vital to the success of the LGBTQ+ community as a whole, SLAGH invites Houston’s 3Ls and recent graduates to apply for the Debra Hunt Emerging Leader Award.

Named in honor and memory of Debra Hunt, a long-time leader in the LGBTQ+ community and one of SLAGH’s founders, the Emerging Leader Award provides a one-time cash award to a law student from one of Houston’s law schools.

SLAGH is committed to supporting and cultivating emerging legal leaders in this difficult financial and political climate. All 3Ls and immediate graduates of the University of Houston Law Center, South Texas College of Law, and Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law are eligible – and encouraged – to apply.

Eligibility Requirements

All December 2020, May 2021, and Summer 2021 law school graduates from the University of Houston Law Center, South Texas College of Law, and Texas Southern University’ Thurgood Marshall School of Law are eligible to apply. Special attention will be paid to those applicants who are SLAGH members. (SLAGH Membership is free to all currently enrolled law students!) Selection will be based on financial need and achievements.

Application Information

Each emerging leader must submit a completed application, including three 140-character tweets and two 150-word memos. A resume and contact information for three references must also accompany the application.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Application Deadline

SLAGH will announce the Award recipient at our annual meeting in April.
